here is a statement coming from a mother with a daughter with bipolar even as an infant she didnt sleep much never took naps didnt sleep all night till she was nearly3 just a very fussy baby.then..... age 14 i dont even know where to gebin descriging the destructive behavoir! now even at 19 years old with a great future ahead of her it can go either way because she want take her meds like she should pray for her and my family

I met a clinically-diagnosed "bipolar". Prolonged research via PubMed suggests the condition is very often a cynical fraud+hoax, used to explain/excuse/justify:deceitfulimmoralirrationalunpredictablevindictiveselfishself-centeredunreasonableviciousvile/evil misconduct, to procure drugs/welfare checks/attention/sympathy.Advice how to deal with these cheats: RUN! Shun them immediately. Forever. It'll save time & grief. Find someone worthy of your kindness/affection. You've been warned!

the most insane and radical people have been diagnosed mentally ill.And they've also been the leaders and innovators of our world. and will be tomorrow also.most mentally ill people turn out to be geniuses...cause they go crazy in a world full of ignorant stupid people...so yeah you lose it.Failers and ill choose to be.I choose not too.I'm Bipolar 1-extremely high axis rating.and doing great no issuesI'll chat if you need advice...from a family of doctors..I'm also a pre-med student.

Thank you CBS for airing the issue of bipolarity. We need less stigma more compassion and research.

Giving kids bipolar meds? Scary. So much harm ca be done and little girls or teenage girls on depakote- it happened to me, though I am bipolar, I was put a depakote at a young age and now it's impossible to have kids now. Less of a chance.

Ms. Queen, I do not believe either of us can actually prove the true quality of any sample handful of psychiatrist, but I am 38 years old, have not only been a patient, but also am currently a clinician going on 12 years now. Given the area I live in (I can't speak for all of America or even all the state i live in) yes, I truely believe that Psychiatrist are either in for money or their treatment is so limited by insurance comp. they don't treat like they should. I do work with good ones now.

i don't think that children should be DIAGNOSED and MEDICATED for bipolar, but they should be monitored so that if, when they're older, the show signs of bipolar, they can treat it before it causes trouble in their lives. and lane, in response to your response on my post, yes, i do believe that most psychiatrists actually DO try to achieve an accurate diagnosis. they're not just in it for the money. the ones who ARE are the jaded doctors who don't care(which you can tell who they are easily)stfu

Come on!!! you really believe most psychiatrist are doing research to come up with a better diagnosis? With managed care and insurance companies I am quite sure several, maybe not most, diagnose so they can get paid. Then on top of that they have the tendency to use the wrong type of medication. A lot of them do care however i am sure.

I agree and research still shows that meds with therapy are the best way to go. That is if you even need the medication.
