The song was written by a fourteen year old. I doubt it was written about Vietnam.

I am 26 years old and watched the series vigourously, war was great exciting..Now I think the intro theme was about the high suicide rates in Vietnam, as a young boy it was a cool song music wise.Now I had a cultureshock and been brought to earth.DAMN...
